ARTIST INSPIRATION = JAROMIR FUNKE
My Images -
|
I have decided to take inspiration from the photographer Jaromir Funke as I wanted to create my own versions of his abstract shadow photos. In his work, he uses light to direct onto objects in order to gain a shadow effect. To create my images, I projected a light onto a blank, flat surface and arranged some objects (including a flower in a vase, forks, stirrers, letters etc.) in front of the light to create shadows. I also used the monochrome setting on the camera to have black and white photos to look more like Funke's images, which are all mainly black and white and contain a range of different tones. I decided to base my images off of Funke's abstract shadow work because I liked how he has an experimental approach to photography by how he overlapped different shapes using just their shadows and how some of the objects are unrecognisable in the images. I also like how his photos are monochrome as the shadows stand out much more. For the majority of my images I used a cream background and held objects in front of the light to create black shadows, however, I also decided to use a heart stencil in order to have a blacked out background to some of my photos because in many of Funke's photos, he has a black background with gaps in order for the objects to fit between.
