still life...
- For my still life shoot, I used different kinds of lighting to achieve different effects of the final image. When photographing the pineapple and the avocado, I used studio lighting to achieve the bright backgrounds and slight shadows from the fruits and flowers. I also decided to move the avocado around in the frame using the rule of thirds and making it off centred to make the image more interesting.
- When I photographed the lime, I used a different kind of lighting and decided to use a light box underneath the cut lime and photograph from above so the light passes through rather than being directly shone onto the fruit. I also decided not to have the lime central to make the image more interesting to look at.
- I then used different lighting for the shot of the glass objects. I used a studio light to light the pink background and then also used a coloured spotlight focus on the glass to give the effect of them being a different colour and make the image more appealing to the eye.
For these two photos I used a soft box behind a setup of glass and iridescent items. this setup allowed the light to pass through the objects from behind and the iridescent material underneath made the image more interesting. Due to the light being behind the objects it allowed for shadows to be casted onto the white surface below. |
photographer inspiration...For this photograph I used inspiration from the photographer SLINKACHU who uses tiny figurines in his work and creates little scenes around various different cities. he uses the figures to reflect the loneliness of living in a big city and the sense of being overlooked, lost and overwhelmed.
For my own photo I decided to use a small sitting figurine and placed it on a bare tree branch. I used shallow depth of field for this photo so that the background was slightly blurred and the branches and the man in the foreground were clear and in focus. To achieve this I used a wide aperture. |
portraits...
To create this photo I used a Low Key Setup by using a plain black backdrop and a soft box to one side of the model. I also used a reflector to control which part of the model was lit up and decided to fully light up the models right side of her face, which resulted in the left side of her face being shadowed. I also used a flower prop to make the photos more interesting ----->

<----- For this shoot, I used a high key setup. I decided to have a bright coloured backdrop with one spotlights focussing on the model to illuminate her face and this allowed shadows to cast on the background. I also made my model stand slightly off centred to make the image more interesting, rather than having her in the centre of the frame.
